13/11/2018 1 Comment What Does Coaching Mean To A Coachee? To understand what coaching is, the WIP Clarity Coach invited Cherry, one of her coaching clients, to share her personal experience, insights and what she felt the impact coaching was for her. Does Cherry’s old life sound familiar to you? Before I got in touch with Amy, I confused coaching with therapy and thought it was only for people with emotional issues. However, when I started to work with her and understand her coaching concept and approaches, I realised that coaching is not solely for therapeutic purposes and is accessible to everyone. I feel like as we go through our lives, we can’t help but think about what the future holds - like your life goals, whether you are on the right path, and what your direction should be. These thoughts can turn into worries and catch you off guard. It may be during a lonely moment at night, or maybe the moment that you open your eyes early in the morning. Many people try to resist these thoughts, and choose not to take control or responsibility for their lives. On the surface, things might appear perfect, yet when those thoughts arise we know we are not fully enjoying the present and are worried about the future. During the coaching process, Amy never tried to tell me what I should or shouldn’t do. Instead, she encouraged and inspired me to explore the answers from my true self through in-depth discussions and simple workshops. Now whenever I am overwhelmed, I have a stronger inner voice to remind me who I am and what is truly important to me. For me, participating in Amy's coaching program was like opening a window to my soul, allowing me to talk to my inner-self, understand who I really am and who I want to be. I used to struggle with peer-comparison, and I had forced myself to follow the same career path as my friends and classmates in order to be better paid and improve my career prospects. With just a few sessions, I had more clarity around my aspirations and how to achieve greater fulfilment in my life. I still feel that career achievements and compliments from others are relevant, but they aren’t what truly matters. Now when I encounter comparison, I’ve found that my attitude has changed and I don’t feel the urge to be the same as everyone else. It has been more than a year since I completed the coaching program, yet I am still benefiting from what I’ve learned. Whenever I am overwhelmed, I have a stronger inner voice to remind me who I am and what is truly important to me. I won’t get lost again in my life. I am so glad that I participated in Amy’s coaching program, as I had the chance to I get to know the real me and examine my life. Coaching cannot change everything in your world, but it allows you to clarify your personal direction and find the confidence to make your own decisions. What questions do you have about coaching?
